Earth preparation with piping readied

When I was in Baja in late May, I met with Jose Martin to prepare the site for the November build. What we decided:

Teen Dome

This will be dug according to the lines in chalk and the drawing below.

Level will be found on sea side of the dome, and then Jose Martin will dig to a depth of 8” below that level line.

The cirdle will be 28” in width  (to accomodate for 2 bag widths of 14” bags), with the interior Radius 6 ft from the center line.

The exterior diamater (from the outer edge of the exterior to outer edge) being 16.6 feet.

The floor will become a 3” inch space that we will fill in after the project with a poured concrete floor.

Bedroom Dome

This will be dug according to the lines in chalk and the drawing below.

Level will be found on sea side of the dome, and then Jose Martin will dig to a depth of 8” below that level line.

The cirdle will be 32” in width (to accomodate for 2 bag widths of 16” bags), with the interior Radius 81 inches from the center line.

The exterior diamater (from the outer edge of the exterior to outer edge) being 27.6 feet.

The Bathroom Dome

This will be dug out according to the lines in chalk and the drawing below.

Level will be the same as the Bedroom Dome, and will be a deeper trench as the ground drops in this area.  Jose Martin will dig to a depth of 8” below that level line.

This dome is ’nestled’ into the larger Bedroom dome and thus a partial cirdle built as if it was an 8 foot dome.  The foundation width will be 28” width (to accomodate for 2 bag widths of 14” bags), with the interior Radius 4 feet from the center line, which I placed at ~ 6 inches inside the door frame.

The exterior diamater (from the outer edge of the exterior to outer edge) will be about being 28" + 28" (for bagd width + butressing) + ~ 8 foot, though it won’t be a perfect half circle, I don’t expect.

The floor will become a 3” inch space that we will fill in after the project with a poured concrete floor.

Door Frames

Finally, Jose Martin has agreed to build me 3 basic door frames: one for the Teen Dome, one for the entrance to the Bedroom Dome, and one for the Bathroom entrance.  The frames will be basic doors,not as special as I did with the keyhole door in the Sunrise Dome.  The door frames will be built according to these specs;

I’d love to be able to re-use the Teen Dome frame, but since I hope to build both domes in the same Hootenanny 10 day period, I’l need 3.

Plumbing

Jose Martin has both memories (he did the trenching initially) and pictures ( below) of where we have existing water lines and septic lines.  We are bringing only a single water line (no hot water) to the Teen dome and a connector to the septic system.  This will be for a small pedestal sink I planb to install inside the Teen dome.

The Bathroom dome will have a shower, toilet, and sink, so Jose is preparing that for water, hot water (from current heater close by), and septic connections.

Electricity

Both domes will have electrical connections, and a small panel to enable expansion, if ever needed.  Jose will run ternches and lines for this.

Septic Connection?

Where is the current septic connector? Here is where it was buried to enable RV hook up:

In summary:

Foundation. Jose Martin agreed to dig trenches matching the chalk Ines for each of the 3 circles (domes), to a depth of 8” from the level line.

Plumbing:
Teen dome just need cold water and a septic connection.
Bathroom Dome needs cold water, hot water, and septic connection.

Electricity:
Each of the 2 domes will need electrical connection. I’m not sure that the Teen Dome needs its own panel, this is Jose Martin’s decision as to what he feels is best.
Please do give the Bedroom/Bathroom Dome it’s own small panel.

Door Frames
I will need 3 door frames to the measurements provided on the web page.

Now I must hope the projects get completed :-)
